You Promised Me Peace

Henry Ford said …

I believe God is managing affairs and that He doesn't need any advice from me. With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end. So what is there to worry about.

When I read this quote it struck me how many times I've tried to pray away my worries …. and then just kept worrying.

Many times I just scooped the issue back up and tucked it away into that ball of anxiety swirling in my stomach.

Have you ever done that?
My dad always likes to tell me the story that when Henry Ford wanted to hire someone, he would take them out to lunch. If they salted their food before tasting it, he wouldn't hire them. That was the end of that. He never worried whether or not it was the right decision. It was his test for the mindset he was looking for.

It makes me think because I'm a salter that I would have been having this inner conversation in my head as I sat across from Mr. Ford. “Is it the right time to salt? Should I not salt at all? Man, I love the taste of salt. I really gotta have some, but what will old Henry think?”

That's the type of worrier I've been.

Lord have mercy …

So, this is the affirmational prayer I say many times a day …

Lord, in your scriptures you promised me peace. I claim and receive it today. In Jesus name, Amen.

It really helps me. Give it a try.

Take note that I never mention worry or problems in that little prayer. All I want is the peace that God promised me.

Thanks for reading.

  1. That's an interesting anecdote about Henry Ford, Sherry. I guess he wanted workers who checked things out before taking action.

And we learn from Abraham to line things up before taking action -- get in a good-feeling place, and then the salt or pepper we apply will be the perfect amount indeed. :)

  2. My prayer is how I get into that good feeling place. :-)
